Raise Your Glass

“We meet today
To thank Thee for the era done,
And Thee for the opening one”

After 48 hours from now, the items that would most likely find their way to the garbage bin are firecrackers' remnants and expired calendars. 48 hours from now, when you go to bed and close your eyes, the events of 2010 surely will grace your thoughts until your psyche fades away to deep slumber. Was it a good year? Or the worst ever? Well, it doesn't really matter. As long as your still alive and kicking, raise your glass and CHEERS! It's another year coming and another chance to make it right or make it better.

2010 is one of the best years of my life. Luv it! Why? Let me count the ways. I went back home for vacation after more than 2 years in Dubai. Nothing beats being with family and friends even if every second of it have had my wallet glowing red. Early in the year, I was awarded employee of the month, a little earlier, I got my own apartment after having been homeless the previous year. I forgot to celebrate my birthday. My blog was recognized best by PEBA. I didn't fall in love in 2010 meaning, less trouble, lol (pwede ring ulol). Finally, I met someone I have been longing to meet long time, PEACE. For that and all, raise your glass and CHEERS!

If I will liken my 2010 to an episodic tv series, then the defunct docu drama I Survived definitely would capture all the drama and struggles of my OFW life. You might say it's hogwash but I'll say it again, OFWs lives are not easy but we bear all we need to bear so that life can be a little nicer to our beloved families. Oh well, it's not all drama naman, amidst all the pains and fangs of being far away from our families, life here is parang Showtime din naman. Palaging may PARTE PARTEY! In our house alone, I think we have held almost 10 celebrations, birthdays, despedida, xmas party, staff party, etc. We have raised more than glasses in these occassions, but we have rasied a spirit that we don't have to be blood related to feel a family.

Economically, my 2010 is breakeven. Not a single amount has been saved. Truth is, I made a bank loan and I am indebted until 2014. But it didnt come to waste. Our home is now a house and three other siblings are in college. Our land title is now free of mortgage and guess what? We just acquired a new lot but I hope and pray hard it won't get utilized anytime soon. It's there in the memorial park. Right now, I really have nothing in my pocket. But my heart is so full of happiness in seeing my family well lived. Don't give me tissue please. Give me a glass and CHEERS!

  1. Cheers to you Oslekdude! You indeed had a great 2010. That's the secret of it all - count your blessings and name them one by one. You have been blest tremendously and it is because you have been a good son and a brother, and a friend too I guess :-)

Happy New Year to you Oslek!
