Moving Holiday

It's a long weekend ahead in Dubai. Tomorrow, the "Ascension of Prophet Mohammad" will be celebrated across UAE thereby giving government employees as well as the private sectors a three day off until Saturday. The Isra Wal Meraj holiday marks the Prophet Muhammad’s night journey (Isra), first from Mecca to “the farthest Mosque” (in Jerusalem), and then ascending (Miraj) to Heaven where he met Allah and some of the earlier prophets, before returning to Mecca. According to Islamic tradition, Isra and Mi’raj are the two parts of a Night Journey that the Islamic prophet Muhammad took during a single night around the year 621.

This is definitely a good news for Pinoy here in Dubai and some people just knows exactly how to capitalize on the holiday timing. PBA is bringing its games here for two days. Transformers is showing in almost all theaters accross UAE. Pinoy bars are serving their biggest promos to entice fun-hungry kabayans to spend part of their pays at a night of dining, singing, dancing and drinking. For some, it's gonna be a long wrestle with their beds, laptops and cameras and to some, a prolonged unfortunate days of bore.

Hey, but did you know that the real date of this holiday was supposed to be today and not tomorrow? The UAE Government has decided to move the date by virtue of a law "which allows carrying over an official holiday to the beginning or end of the week if it falls between two working days". You think this is something copied from the Philippines? Whatever, let us just enjoy it.
